Pandit Sanjay Marathe

Vocalist

On 2nd March 2020, the renowned sarod player Pandit Pradeep Barot was felicitated at the Spiritual Research Centre and Ashram for his humility, spiritual love and devotion towards Music

(Late) Pandit Sanjay Marathe of Thane was a distinguished classical vocalist whose life reflected deep humility, pure discipleship, and unwavering dedication to his Guru, his father, Pandit Ram Marathe. Felicitated on 04.04.2022, he was recognised at a spiritual level of 62%, living a life where music and spirituality were inseparable.

From childhood, Pandit Sanjay Marathe lived in a continuous state of discipleship. He never viewed his father merely as a parent; instead, in his heart, he always saw him as a Guru fully immersed in the science of music. This pure feeling of discipleship became the foundation of his entire musical journey.

His inner being was as innocent and pure as a child. The quiet spring of joy flowing within him constantly reflected on his face; he was always cheerful and always smiling. This childlike inner purity was one of his most striking qualities.

His low ego made him exceptionally grounded :

  • He would openly and honestly speak about his own childhood mistakes.
  • He remained deeply rooted in the present moment, never dwelling on the past, and always immersed in his music practice.
  • His simplicity and openness allowed him to speak to everyone freely and move with ease, giving others the feeling that he was a member of their own family.
  • Pandit Sanjay Marathe’s mind was naturally drawn away from Maya (the Great Illusion that the world we are in is real) and inclined towards God. Through his music, he remained constantly spiritually introverted, seeking God in every note and every nuance. His musical journey was, in essence, a spiritual quest, a continuous dialogue with the Divine.

He leaves behind not only a legacy of refined classical artistry but also an example of how humility, devotion, and childlike purity can elevate music into a profound spiritual path.
