(Late) Pandit Govindrao Paluskar of Nashik, an esteemed classical vocalist, is remembered as an artist whose music and life were deeply intertwined with spirituality. He is the grandson of the renowned Vocalist Pandit V.D. Paluskar, the founder of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. With a spiritual level of 61%, he exemplified qualities that elevate both an artist and a seeker, humility, a low ego, and a heartfelt surrender to the will of God.
t the core of Pandit Paluskar’s philosophy was a profound insight: “Just as devotion naturally leads us to God, the science of music too can take us effortlessly to Him.” This spirit defined his approach to music, not as a profession, but as a sacred path to God.
Even while managing his professional responsibilities, Pandit Paluskar immersed himself in the study of music. After retirement, he poured himself entirely into this calling, dedicating his days to learning, practicing, and sharing music. As his son, Shri Abhay Govindrao Paluskar, recalls, “Whatever knowledge Baba had, he offered it to everyone with complete devotion.”
Family members and students alike describe him as exceptionally loving and patient. His daughter-in-law, Mrs. Swati Abhay Paluskar, shares, “I have never seen him angry. He understands everyone. His life is simple. Baba never used music to seek prestige or position. He taught with a generous, selfless spirit, imparting knowledge freely.”
Despite his expertise and stature, he lived with simplicity and grace. Pandit Paluskar viewed music not as a means to acclaim but as a tool for uplifting others and progressing spiritually. His legacy continues to inspire, showing how a life rooted in devotion, humility, and service can make music not just an artform, but a bridge to the Divine.
