Her Holiness Kanthimathi Santhanam, reverentially known as Pujya Kanthimathi Mami, is a living embodiment of unwavering devotion expressed through Naamasankeerthana (a pattern of devotional singing). At 86 years of age, despite multiple physical ailments, her commitment to Naamasankeerthana remains undiminished. For her, Naamasankeerthana is not merely a musical or devotional activity, but a lifelong form of worship and surrender to God.
Initiated into this sacred tradition at the tender age of two under the guidance of her father, who was also her first Guru, Pujya Mami has spent over eight decades immersed in the practice, study and propagation of Naamasankeerthana. Her deep understanding spans multiple languages, enabling her to sing and interpret Saints’ bhajans with clarity, while beautifully elucidating their inner bhava, context and spiritual significance.
Marked by profound humility, she attributes all knowledge and ability solely to Divine will, often expressing that she is merely an instrument through whom God acts. Free from attachment to Maya, her thoughts, words and actions remain anchored in constant remembrance of God, particularly Lord Subramanya (Shri Kartikeya).
With exemplary dedication, she rises daily at 3 a.m. to document her insights. In a remarkable act of seva, she has authored a complete Tamil manuscript on the significance and spiritual benefits of Naamasankeerthana and entrusted it to Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay, ensuring this sacred knowledge is preserved for future generations.
Her life stands as a luminous example of devotion, humility and selfless service through Naamasankeerthana.
