Padma Shri Pandit Suresh Talwalkar was guided first by his father, Shri Dattatreya Talwalkar, he began his journey with the tabla. Over the years, he was blessed with the guidance of several eminent Gurus, such as Pandit Gajananbuva Joshi and Pandit Nivruttibuva Sarnaik.
In recognition of his lifelong contribution to Indian classical music, he received the All India Radio Award (1966), the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2004), and the Padma Shri (2013), one of India’s highest civilian honours.
When meeting the MAV team, Pandit Suresh Talwalkar shared that spiritual practice in music is a continuous, lifelong practice and that an artist must work on removing personal flaws. He emphasised that this inner discipline should be followed sincerely for oneself, not for public display and affirmed that the guidance given by Sacchidand Parabrahman Dr Athavale on this path is absolutely correct.
