Padma Shri Ram Kumar Mallick

(Late) Padma Shri Pandit Ram Kumar Mallick was one of the most revered exponents of Indian classical music and a towering figure in the Dhrupad tradition. Pandit Ram Kumar Mallick was instrumental in establishing the Darbhanga Gharana as it is recognised today, earning him the distinction of being its foremost ambassador to the outside world.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian music, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1970. Over the course of his illustrious career, he received several other prestigious awards, including the Tansen Award, Surmani, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Indira Gandhi Sangeet Peeth Award and an honorary Doctor of Letters.

Dr Samit Mallick

Dr Samit Mallick is a distinguished Dhrupad vocalist and a leading torchbearer of the illustrious Darbhanga Dhrupad Gharana, one of the most revered lineages within the Dhrupad tradition of Indian classical music. Dr Mallick received his foundational and advanced training from two eminent masters of the gharana, his grandfather, the late Padma Shri Pandit Vidur Mallick, and his father, the late Padma Shri Pandit Ramkumar Mallick. In recognition of his contribution to Indian classical music and his excellence as a young artist, Dr Samit Mallick was honoured with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2022 by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
