Ms Maithili Thakur is a multifaceted young achiever who seamlessly integrates music, culture and public service. Born on 25 July, 2000 in the culturally rich Mithila region of Bihar and currently based in Delhi, she has been immersed in music from early childhood. Trained in Indian classical and folk music, Maithili Thakur has sung original compositions, covers and traditional folk and devotional songs across a wide spectrum of Indic languages. In parallel with her artistic journey, Ms Thakur has also made history in public life. She is the youngest Indian politician to serve as a Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly (MLA). She has received the “Cultural Ambassador of the Year Award” conferred upon her in 2024 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
The MAV team visited Maithili Thakur and her family at her residential place. When asked how she sings devotional folk songs with such deep spiritual emotion, Ms Thakur explained that as soon as she begins singing, her eyes naturally close and she gets engrossed in the devotion to God.
