Dr. Sandhya Purecha

Dr Sandhya Purecha is a highly revered Bharatanatyam exponent, renowned across India for her artistry imbued with deep spiritual emotion. She received her rigorous training under the guidance of Guru Acharya Parvatikumar in the Guru-disciple tradition. She is the founder of the Shri Sarfoji Raje Bhonsale Kendra, Mumbai and is the Principal of Bharat College of Fine Arts, Mumbai.

In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the performing arts, she was conferred the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2017 by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. Recently, she has assumed the esteemed role of Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the national academy for performing arts under the Government of India.

Dr Sandhya Purecha shared detailed explanations of various Natyashastra shlokas along with their meanings with Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay’s seekers. She explained how with discipline the practice can lead one up to a state of samadhi and demonstrated through practical examples, how facial expressions and emotions described in Natyashastra can be expressed, making this a valuable learning experience. Dr Purecha also presented a book of Natyashastra she translated to MAV.
